Clean Pump Initative

A new program of Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities (PRCC), the Clean Pump Initiative is the actuation of the organization’s mission to reduce petroleum consumption for transportation and provide assistance and education on alternative transportation. The program is being funded through a 2008 Alternative Fuel Investment Grant from the State of Pennsylvania and a grant from the National Soy Board. Through the new initiative, PRCC will be installing three above ground fuel tanks within the Pittsburgh region.
These new fuel tanks will be capable of supplying any blend level of biodiesel. The project represents the single largest investment to develop the region’s ability to dispense regionally-produced biodiesel. Initially the tanks will serve two non-profit fleets, The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Construction Junction, as well as a local transit business, Transportation Solutions, who services UPMC. In the future, some pump locations will be open to the public through a PRCC membership program.
