Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities (PRCC) coalition member Vogel Holding is featured in the latest Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) Case Study on Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)! The Case Study, entitled "Renewable Natural Gas from Landfills Can Reduce Fuel Costs and Increase Independence" highlights Seneca Landfill's process for producing RNG from captured methane.
The RNG is then used to power the company's vehicles, creating energy from waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Vogel Companies started with four RNG trash haulers and now operates more than 120 RNG vehicles. They also operate the only public RNG fueling station in Western Pennsylvania, making the fuel available to others who switch to RNG vehicles.
Locally, more than 1 million gallons of RNG have replaced petroleum in our Region, making the fuel one of our go-to resources for reductions in both gasoline gallons equivalency and greenhouse gases.
Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities is leveraging the success of this project to support other fleets thinking about adopting RNG vehicles, especially landfill operators who can use RNG produced from their facilities to power their vehicles and reduce GHGs.
